For over 11 years, Kylie and Cody Thoene have been a part of their church community at St.

Ludger’s in Creighton, and they’ve loved every minute of it. From Bible studies to parish events, everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand to strengthen each other’s faith. That’s what Kylie and Cody appreciate about the parish they call home.

“We enjoy the tight knit church community and how willing everyone is to help when the need arises,” Kylie said.

Living out the Faith

Like many other parish members, the Thoenes find themselves involved in many of the goings-on at St. Ludger’s Church and School. Cody enjoys being a Y Disciple leader, and both Cody and Kylie have served on a number of special committees. The various church programs have given them countless opportunities to grow spiritually both individually and as a family.

“Our faith has played a big role in our life,” Kylie said. “By attending church events, going to Mass every Sunday and praying together all as a family, we keep God at the center of our home.”

One of the most profound experiences that led the couple to rely on their faith was the struggle early on in their marriage to have children. They both deeply wanted to start a family, but it wasn’t going as they had hoped. Through prayer, they realized they needed to put their trust in God.

“We came to understand that it is not what we want when we want it. We are on God’s time,” Cody said. “God has a great plan for all of us and will not challenge us with anything we cannot handle.”

Building a Family

The couple’s prayers were finally answered, and they were blessed with three children — Otto, 9, and twins Gwen and Owen, 5, all of whom currently attend St. Ludger’s Elementary School. Their family was rounded out with the addition of beloved three-year-old golden retriever Ruby, who may be spoiled as can be but brings so much joy to their home.

Today, the family continues to rely on God and their faith during challenging times, but also turns to Him in appreciation of all the good in their lives. They particularly cherish the time they get to spend together. The family enjoys being outdoors, whether it’s fishing, hunting, or yard work, often adventuring out to the pasture or going for side-by-side rides.

In everything they do, they try to truly live in the present moment, knowing that tomorrow is never guaranteed. The Thoenes live in constant gratitude for the community they live in, the family God blessed them with and the life they’ve built through their unwavering Catholic faith.
